Question sort duplicates to individual columns

    sort duplicates.xlsx

    Greetings,

Would someone please help me with the attached file. I am trying to create a formula(s) to first determine if the value of column a is a duplicate. If it is not a duplicate then no action is needed. If it is a duplicate then I need to determine if the associated duplicate values of column B are also duplicates. If these values are duplicates, how do I sort them to separate rows? I need to identify each individual value of column B with the corresponding value in row A. I would like to do this in one row. The number of occurrences, in either row, is not pertinent.

    Thank you for your guidance!

Re: sort duplicates to individual columns

    Hi jmhan,

A quick solution could be a pivot table, see the attached file and try changing values in J7.

Re: sort duplicates to individual columns

    DILIPandey,

Thanks for the information. I spent a good deal of time with the Pivot chart and its a pretty amazing tool. After playing with it, I realized that I had taken the wrong approach. Instead, could you suggest how to first determine if the values in column A are duplicates and then determine if the corresponding values in column B are duplicates. If the values in column B aren't duplicates, I would like to delete all the duplicate rows. If the value in Column B is duplicate, I would like to retain all the unique values and delete the extras. In the end, I should have no duplicate corresponding values in column B but I may have a few duplicates in column A.

The database I'm sort through has several thousand unique values in both columns. My problem is the corresponding values in column B reoccur and correspond to different values in column A.

Thanks again for the pivot information. I had a good time playing with that tool. It will definitively come in handy.

    Thanks.

I think I got it. I used the concatenate command and combined both files and then deleted the duplicates in column B. Again thanks for the help.
