My excel 2010 keeps crashing and not responding or saving help!

    Hi All

I have a genuine copy of office pro 2010. All works fine except excel!

It seems to be mainly on one workbook I have brought over from open office and on a mac! It wont save due to errors it won't tell you about? It then stops responding or crashes? Wont save as etc....

I have repaired, I have even deleted and downloaded a new office pro genuine and installed and doing the same so i guess it has to be the file?

BUT it seems to work on another laptop we have, same file, same excel????

The only thing i seem to be able to find is in the permissions it has an "unknown account"? Also under the file menu where it allows you to check the file it states something about conditional formatting i have used and not being compatible BUT i cant for the life of me find that in the menus to get rid?!

Sorry new to pc after years on mac!

    Any ideas please?

    Thanks

I am getting some similar crashes too. It's not a bug, its a feature!

Try to save as .xls to first, then re-save as .xlsx
    Hope that helps.

Unfortunately the second you hit save or save as excel stops responding and you have force shutdown?????

I started to write a whole new workbook last night, did a save as in case i lost what i'd done etc, all seemed to be working fine then suddenly went for a save and it came up with the cant save due to errors in the file again!!!!

All id done was set the sheet up headings no formulas or anything?!!!!

I'd think it was excel but thats two copies both genuine and both doing it?

I've ran scans on my laptop and all sorts no threats worms etc nothing totally lost.......

This has been causing me pain for days! Thank you. Swapping the default printer has fixed all the crashing.

Re: My excel 2010 keeps crashing and not responding or saving help!

Hi all I've been trying to find a fix for this but there doesn't seem to be one. I know there are a number of possibles including disable add ins and clear print spooler or delete HP print spooler but none of this works for me even in safe mode I keep getting crashes mainly when I copy and paste from one workbook to another. I thought it was because I am working between 2003 2007 and 2010 versions so I converted all the files I work on to 2010 and that seems to have made it worse.
I now copy all to data I am working on to the one work book so I can get the benefit of the full range of paste options but even that is still suffering from crashes. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
    Anyone got any more ideas?

Re: My excel 2010 keeps crashing and not responding or saving help!

    Hi Jeff
Thanks for the heads up but I was trying to avoid having all the same answers sent to me again or having to repeat all the steps I have already tried.
I'll start a new thread asking the same thing and just avoid answering the same stupid questions. I'm not trying to be difficult but all the forums I have tried all seem too say MS doesn't have an answer or doesn't care to publish it.
Just another example of MS being too big for their boots and that how none of their products are backwards compatible.
    Regards
    Rick
