"Marching Ants" disappeared and forcing Copying Values only

I'm unsure what may have caused this problem, but whenever I attempt to "Copy" (CTRL-C) cells, there are no "Marching Ants". When I attempt to "Paste" (CTRL-V), it does not paste the functions, column widths, formats, etc. When I right-click and go to "Paste Special", it only indicates that it is text.

When I first discovered this problem, I attempted to open other Excel spreadsheets and create new ones to see if they were affected. They were, so that lead me to believe it was a problem with the program itself. I first initiated the "Repair" feature for Excel, and it worked at first. The Copy and Pasting functionality was back to normal for a few moments until it suddenly only copied values again. I then tried to uninstall and then reinstall the program, but that did not remedy the problem.

Now I do press the CTRL key often since it bound as my "Talk" button for another program I use to communicate with my friends. If anyone has seen this problem or knows how to fix it, please let me know. Thanks.

There is an issue with your Excel program. It could be an expired trial version or an invalid copy. It could also be a computer virus.

I'm having this same problem. I've reinstalled Office 2010. Doing that fixed the problem for one day and now I have the problem again. Please let me know if you discover a solution. Thanks.

I have the same problem and the only thing I've figured out is that in my case it happens when I'm running Internet Explorer and Excel. When I close IE I can copy and paste normally.
    Any clue??

    Jaech,

Thanks for the info! I use Firefox but the same thing happens when I closed Firefox...Excel functioned normally. Open Firefox...problem reappears. At least I know how to avoid it. Our IT support center is also researching it and I gave them this information. If they figure anything out I'll post the solution. Thanks again.

I have been having the same problem but with a little detective work I have traced it - at least in my case - to having Skype Apps installed and active on the active browser. Once disabled Excel Copy/Paste works normally and the Marching Ants are back. This was true for IE, Firefox and Chrome, all three.

I checked on Skype Support and it appears to be something they know about and have been working on since sometime last year -at least June 2011. However they seem to be connecting it with their Skype MS Office Toolbar app which is something I've never used.

In any event, disabling the Skype Browser Apps, Add-ins, Extensions, whatever you want to call them, seems to be the answer - at least for me. I would be interested to know if others have found whether other browser paraphernalia is having similar effects....?

I am really grateful to the forum gurus for this solution. I came across it by sheer accident. Then a few weeks ago I had the same problem and, sure enough, removing the Skype tool from the Firefox browser worked. I would have never in a million years figured this out on my own. Your guys/gals are the greatest!

You were right to the Point, found Skype hiding in my internet explorer toolbar and every thing worked well as soon as I
    deleted it.
    Thanks.
