Unhappy Running a calculation based on a drop down list

My office is stuck using excel 2002 for the foreseeable future. I'm trying to create a drop down box. I don't think validation is gonna get the job done here because I don't want anyone to type in the box. I just want them to click on it, pick an item type from the list (lbs, cubic feet etc) and then type a number into the box next to it. I'm building a conversion chart that will apply a formula against the number based on what item is picked from the drop down list. But first things first.

Can anyone tell me how to build a drop box / drop down list of static choices in 2002?

    Thanks for reading my post.

Re: Running a calculation based on a drop down list

i do not have access to XL 2002, but i vaguely remember Form Controls-based Combo Box and List Box being useful in similar situations on 2003 (i hope it is valid for 2002, too).

according to XL 2007, the navigation might be ALT+L+I followed by C for combo box or I for list box. once selected, you would have to draw on the sheet to get a shape, then right-click and Format Control > Control > Input Range and Linked Cell.

    see if that helps.

Yaaar. Turns out what you posted wasn't exactly what I needed. However it popped up the "control toolbox" tool bar which IS what I needed. I just couldn't remember what the thing was called in 2002. So if anyone else stumbles upon this thread, just right click on an empty section of tool bar, click on control toolbox. Then in your new toolbar, click on the "design mode" button. Then click on the design box of your choice (I went with combo box), and get to box'n!

If you select "Control toolbox" combo box, this will ask to enable/disable macros when opening your file. You can use 'Form toolbox' instead.

Excellent. Thank you Haseeb, I will try that as well. Also thanks to icestationzbra who said something similar as well.
