Excel for Mac 2008 Slow Calculation

I have created a spread sheet in Excel 2007 on a PC and when i go to use it one my Mac (OS Tiger) using 2008 for Mac, it literally takes 15 seconds per input in any cell before it will be done calculating and the next cell can be used.

The Spreadsheet is quite expansive, it is a set of books with lookups and other advanced formulas that all run quite fast in Excel 2007 on the PC. (IFERROR formulas were used and SUMIFS as well - both new to 2007).

Any advice. I do not want to have to redo all of it, especially if it will not help.

If anyone knows a way around this, or what the problem is, that would be helpful

    Thanks

I doubt if it is a Mac problem you are having but a formula issue. Some formulas will calculate an entire sheet or even the entire workbook.

    Here's a good read...

    Also google:

    Excel extremely slow response

Will get a lot of hits

I do not think the article exactly covers my problem. I think the leap from 2007 to Mac 2008 has caused the problem.. I wish i knew where to look to find out if there was a difference in programming and calculations handling between the two softwares.

I have no problems with the software on a PC, but on the Mac, (dual core intel) where the workbook will have to be used, its just plain slow!

According to the article, the dual core should help considerable in the calculation speed. I think, however, but cannot confrim, that there was/is a programming error that does not utilize that function for whatever reason.

    Thanks

Re: Excel for Mac 2008 Slow Calculation

I know this is old, but FYI for users out there, it's definitely a problem.

My wife is running a pre-made excel sheet from an MBA program. Everybody in the class using a PC with windows has no issues. We she runs the same sheet on her Mac with Excel 2008 (12.2.0), any change to any cell results in a long re-calculation delay. I even loaded the same sheet into my old PC with Excel 2003 and way less processing power and it updated cells quicker.

Just wish I could find a solution on the internet for this. So far no luck...
