Can the colour of one cell be determined by the information in another?

    Hi,

I am trying to get cell AC6 on Sheet2 to change to a colour (any colour for now) depending on what info is in cell G6 Sheet2.

If G6 has a £ sign in it then I would like AC6 to automatically change to a colour. If G6 has anything other than a £ sign AC6 can just stay blank without a colour.

I really appreciate any help, please see the spreadsheet I have uploaded. Thanks.

Have you used conditional formatting before?

Select AC6 and then click on Conditional Formatting on Home tab

New Rule > "use a formula to determine which cells to format" > use this formula

    =G6="£"

select required format or colour > OK

Thanks, I have used it a little.

That works fine. Do you know if that will still work if I open the spreadsheet in Excel 2003?

Yes, Excel 2003 supports conditional formatting too - although there's a restriction of 3 conditions per cell so as long as you don't go beyond that it should be OK.

Possibly better to set up the conditional formatting in Excel 2003 initially - then you can guarantee it will work
