Excel dates format error

Hi Team,
Pretty new to excel while learning hasnt stopped.
I have a list of dates on my excel sheet on the format 02.2019. Now I want to change it to 2019.02.01. I went to format cells and changed the setting to type *2012-02-14.

But suprisingly it doesnt help me rather I get a error message with the triangle. If I click enter on the cell it gives a random date 1900-01-02. Can anyone help here?

Perhaps =DATE(RIGHT(A1,4),Left(A1,2),1) and format as required
