counting dates?

Hi,

I have a column full of dates in the dd/mm/yyyy format. Now I am trying to count how many entries with specific dates exist in this column, however, the date i want to count, is defined by another cell's value.

Example:
A1 = 2012
A2 = Jan
A3 = 01

I need the formula to count how many entries exist for 01/01/2012 but need to have the DD, MM, YYYY pulled from these cells.

Any suggestions?

Assuming your dates in B1:B100
with your month format in A2 is 3-digits

Thanks a lot, but it doesnt seem to work.
I believe the problem is that in the referencal cell the month is written in MMM format, but the actual raw data is written in dd/mm/yyyy format.
Another issue is that I am also trying to count if there is any email address in another column for the specific date. it seems to be doing fine for January, but not for any other month (only Jan, Feb and Mar on file).

I have attached a sample and would be glad if you could have a look.

Hello Armitage,

Firstly, better to use a dynamic range instead of looking until 65536 rows.

Based on your attachment assume you are on Excel 2007 or later. so use COUNTIFS instead of SUMPRODUCT. See the attached.
