Password protect master workbook but not linked workbook

Hi All

Is it possible to password protect a master workbook without having to also enter the password on the linked workbook?

We have a list of client logins which is only updated by the manager and is password protected. I have created a linked 'copy' of this file that all staff can acess to view the logins, and this updates with the information from the master copy. However when the copy is opened it also asks for a password, but if the password is entered it then says 'cannot read file'. I thought perhaps this was a problem with the links, but if password protection is removed from the master, then the copy opens and updates all links perfectly.

So is there a way to password protect the master but not the copy - and even better, is there a way to also make the copy read only? Or even just have a different password for the copy?
