100% CPU Utilization when doing Subtotals on a 35meg file

    Hi
I use fairly large excell files to do basic functions like =Sumif , =Vlookup, and subtotals. The file conatins a copule of sheets. I trie dto do subtotals on a sheet with obly 7000 lines and my CPU usage went to 100%. This file doe not contain any macros.
My Machine has 8G of wich 5G is available, thus it can not be the machien taht is not coping with the calculations. What checks can I preform to see why this simple functions is killing my processing powers?

Re: 100% CPU Utilization when doing Subtotals on a 35meg file

Hello and welcome to the forum,

If your CPU usage went to 100% then that means that you have a lot of calculations (probably volatile) that are all being recalculated at the same time or have larger ranges that are used in the calculations. If this is bothering you, then you can set the calculations to manual and update the results when you are ready, or alternately you can decrease the number of cores that Excel can use. When I need the computer for other purposes, I will usually leave one core free and give the Excel the ability to use the rest.

    Hope this helps.
