Talking SOLVER: how do constraints work?

In the attached file, I want to use solver to:

    Maximize G29

by modifying only these cells: E18, E23, E25

    with the constraint that:

    E29 (the sum of E17:E25) = 3,355,000 exactly

I submit my objective, variables to modify, and constraint...but it keeps giving me an error without specifying what the problem is.

    Help, please!

ps- the problem is on the first worksheet in the workbook.

Try grouping your change cells in a contiguous range.

Re: SOLVER: how do constraints work?

Alf, thanks for attaching your attempt. It looks like G29--the cell I want to maximize--is lower than before, though...

Did you adjust anything so that solver worked? It gave me an error when I submitted the constraints as described above. Stumped...

No, I just added the constraint. Two ways of doing this i.e. you set a reference to a cell as I did or you write it as a value when you set up solver.

I can't copy your problem but since you use excel 2010 be sure to select "Simplex method" before running Solver.
