Excel Error on File Open Deletes Data Connection - Can I Recover the Connection

    Hi All,

I have several Excel 2007 files that each have several worksheets connected to an external data source (SQL Server). My queries each return a table, and each table contains a number added columns that do some calculations and vLookUps on the returned data. On several occasions recently, I get an error when I open some of these files:

    image002.png

When I allow the file to open, my tables are no longer connected to the data source and the tables/formatting are removed. All that remains is the data from the prior refresh (done at close of file during previous session), and my equations in the calculated columns. The actual data connections are still available within the workbook - I just cannot seem to figure out how to recreate my tables and links.

    1) Is there a simple way to restore my tables and connections to my data source while preserving my formatting (column order, etc) and calculation columns?
    2) Any idea why this error is regularly (although intermittently) occuring? Any way to fix it?
    3) The problem does not seem limited to a single file. Although, it is possible that I leveraged some of the data connections between files.

Thanks - I am in a real bind on this one.

From the times this has happened to me, I have not been able to find a way to restore the tables/queries. I consider that workbook "corrupted." I have noticed this to only occur within Excel 2007, if I re-import the Queries/Tables and save the workbook in Excel 2000 or Excel 2010 it will work perfect.

I do not have a rhyme or reason as to what makes it occur or why it occurs, just from my experience.
