How to Subtotal values that begin with a letter?

    Hello everyone,

I have an issue with Excel 2007.

I am able to use the subtotal function to get a dealer number for a column. If the dealer number begins with a C, my subtotal function errors with the #DIV/0!

In my sample spreadsheet, if you filter just one dealer number, the forumula in A18 will work. If you switch to the last dealer C1221 it errors because of the letter. Any help would be appreciated or other methods to get this done.

    Thank you!

I don't understand why you are calc'ing the average of dealer (id?) numbers. Please re-explain what your aim is>

    Sorry for the confusion,

I'm doing it because I have a list of 150 dealers and when I filter by dealer I have a seperate area doing a vlookup off of it. But since the spreadsheet has so many lines I use the subtotal function to give me the dealer number that I filtered. ( There probably is a better way to do this )

I basically need to do a vlookup off the dealer I filter by without haveing to enter something every time.

    Thank you for your time.

Have you tried to use data validation using the dealer id's as the pick list? Then doing your lookup with the currently chosen id in the validation cell?
A more detailed workbook will definitely help.
