Selecting Data set based on entered longitude and latitude and closest location

    Hi all,

New here and have a stumbling question. I have created a spreadsheet with 5000+ rows with several data points including longitude and latitude. My goal is to enter coordinates in decimal form and then have the correct data displayed based upon the closest coordinates in the data set. Any thoughts?

    Example:
User enter: -73.456 long 41.567 lat

output results: closest location point and then selected data.

    Thanks,

    J

Thank you for the reply. Here is the sample file based on locations in the US. There are two sheets, one with the input and the other with the data. Thanks for the help.

I can't seem to get it to work properly. Ex. I want to enter Lat 32.8 and long -79.84. I would like it to display the nearest station = Charleston Intl airport or folly island.

    Hi Solarj,

Please highlight few of the selections in Excel which should be the answer as per you and upload the file. I'll try and match up them ... thanks.

Re: Selecting Data set based on entered longitude and latitude and closest location

    Hi solarj,

Since we need to do the nearest match on two columns, it would be little difficult to achieve this. If you search 32.8 on Latitude then we can get a match (row 75) but if we look for 32.8 and -79.84 separately, then the nearest match would be two different rows.. thanks.

I'll get back if any thing clicks in my mind.
