Need help with formatting of cells to remove spaces

    Hello Group,

i have recently purchased an inventory control program that has the ability to import inventory as a text file, and export the current inventory from the program to a CSV, or similar type file readable by Excel.

The programs "add inventory" feature is a little bloated and over complicated and i would much rather manage the inventory, and the customer list in Excel and then import it into the program, but im running into a problem and i have tried searching for it here first but honestly its returning a bunch of stuff not really related to what im trying to find out.

first off, i can export from the program to a CSV or similarly delimited file just fine, and i can open the delimitted file in Excel and everything is working great at that point.

second, i know what each of the cells represent so i can effectively add new data to the blank cells. As as example, cell 1 is item number, cell 2 is invoice description, cell 3 is P.O. description and so on and so forth.

third - the text file to import back into the inventory program needs to be a "," text file and excel cannot export that without basic programming. I have tried to follow the microsoft help file on adding the macro but its not working for me so i did it the only other way i could see to do it and that was to add a column between each field so i could export it from excel as a text file with the required delimeting characters, and the required carriage returns but excel is adding spaces in between the characters which is messing the import up back into the program. I have contacted the software company and sent them a copy of the text file im trying to import, and they are telling me that there should be no spaces between the fields and the delimiting characters but excel is adding spaces.

    Basically the program needs this

    "0001itemnumber","invoice description","po description","amount in inventory","reorder point"

    and excel is exporting this

    " 0001itemnumber "," invoice description "," po description "," amount in inventory "," reorder point "

and the spaces are causing issues on the reimportation.

do i have something formatted incorrectly that is adding the spaces, or can someone please exlain in laymens terms how i get excel to correctly export the "," file??

Thanks in advance for any help

    Mike

wow - that didnt work, it deleted the spaces and reformatted my text without spaces

substitute the * character with a blank space and you should see what im saying - this is what excel is exporting

"********0001itemnumber******** ","********* invoice description******** ","******* po description ********","******** amount in inventory******** "," *******reorder point *******"
