    Need help with Formatting

My excel sheet is made to input an "a" for accepted, which turns the cell green; and an "r" for rejected and the cell turns red. I want to be able to have the cell time stamped with the date. I already formated it to turn the different colors based on the "a" or "r". How do I format it to include the time stamp in each individual cell as well?

    Hi,

if the cell already contains a text value like "a" or "r" then it cannot also contain a time stamp. You can put a time stamp into an adjacent cell, if required, but it will require VBA code. Just search this forum for "time stamp" to see half a gazillion examples about how to achieve that.

    regards

Is there a way for the "a" to turn into the date and turn the cell green? Same for the "r" to turn into the date and turn red?

    Re: Need help with Formatting

i do not know the purpose of your spreadsheet, so may be i am being presumptuous.

can you have two separate columns - one called Accepted and another called Rejected? if so, instead of entering "a" and "r", you could use the CTRL + SHIFT + ; feature to instead insert the current time directly into a cell in the appropriate column. and, then, you could use conditional formatting to change the colours, if you please.

else, you need to go the VBA route for reusing the same cell.

CSE, aka Array aka { }, formulae are confirmed with CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER.
Replace commas ( , ) with semicolons ( ; ) in formulae, if your locale setting demands.

    Hi

As npamcpp's already told you, you can not do it to the same cell.

Maybe you can use a helper and hidden column and do a combination of these...

If your value "a" or "r" is in cell A1, use a VBA macro to put a time stamp into cell B1.

As I said before, search this site for "time stamp" to find lots of examples: https://www.google.co.nz/search?sour...excelforum.com

I think that we can also do this, without macro.

    Re: Need help with Formatting

Attached should be easier to understand. It would be great if the "a" would simply get replaced by the date and turn green just as "r" would turn red and place the date, if not, placing the date in the next cell would give us the date.QBMS Online.xlsx

    Hi

Even now, i am not sure that i understand well your requirement.

Take a look to your example.

I can say for sure that we can not, use in the same call, Time stamp and something else.

    Is this, works for you?
