    counting conditionally formatted cells

I've done some digging but am still not sure how to solve this...

I have two lists of projects, each list has a project name and number. List A contains 253 projects, list B contains 283.

My goal is to compare the two lists and pull out the duplicate projects. I have placed both lists next to one another and Conditionally Formatted them, selecting the two columns containing project numbers and having excel fill in these project number cells in red to identify them. (Conditional Formatting > Highlight Cell Rules > Duplicate Values).

As an FYI, project numbers are randomly assigned - the numbers within the project number do no mean much aside from a letter that is sometimes placed in front to designate which office is handling the project.

    A couple examples: Y010600, K006700, 2634901

All I want to do is to count the cells that have been filled in red in both lists. My problem when I searched for an answer for this is that I do not have a particular criteria to use a CountIf function or something similar. I.e. I am not trying to count a certain range of values.

Thanks in advance for your help!

There could be many ways to tackle this, but one is with a UDF.

A UDF is a User-Defined Function which is used with the VBA environment.

Again, this may not be the best options, but if you post a small sample workbook with what you have and what you desire, maybe there is a better solution.
