Lookup cell containing "MR"

Hi All

I am new to my job and use excel which is very interesting to me . Can somebody tell me if i can make the following manual task automatic in excel . Any help greatly apreciated.

Task

Sheet 2 Cell A4 needs to display the results of checking the following in sheet 1.

Have a list of cells that need to be checked that has txt starting with ME . Cells c4 , h4 , m4 , r4 , c8 . h8 . m8 , r8 etc

If it finds ME then to check another list of 50 different cells for text "7ft 360" and count the number of occurrences.


Any help greatly appreciated.

I think it would help if you posted a sample workbook for people to see what exactly you want/need and be able to test possible solutions.

Hi Thank you for reply. i attach file for you to look at.

I need to display in sheet 2 cell d3 how many times it finds string "7ft 360" in sheet 1 that also has the cell before it that starts with M.

D3: =SUMPRODUCT(--(LEFT(Sheet1!$D$6:$U$124,1)=LEFT($D$1,1)),--(Sheet1!$F$6:$W$124=$C3))
I3: =SUMPRODUCT(--(LEFT(Sheet1!$D$6:$U$124,1)=LEFT($I$1,1)),--(Sheet1!$F$6:$W$124=$H3))

and drag both formulae down.
