    Pivot table dates

    Hi,

I have a data set that includes specific dates, showing sales transactions for each day of the month. I have put this data into a pivot so that the dates are showing as columns. What I want to do however is to show the date column data as a collation of everything for a specific month. For example, I want to show the total for a product for Jan 12, however now the data is showing as 1/1/12, 2/3/12, 3/1/12 etc as the data set, even though formatted to show month, is reading off specific dates during the month.

I have tried to find a way to group the data in the pivot so that I will get a total for Jan 12, Feb 12, etc. Is there a way to do this within the pivot???

Do you mean January 2012? If so, you can group the dates by month. In the piuvot table, right click on the first date field and select "Group". This opens a selection window where you can pick "Months" and "Years" to consolidate your data.

If you attach a sample of your workbook it will be easier to find a solution. Remember to remove/replace sensitive data before uploading the file. Look here if you need help with attachments:

Yes you are right I mean January 2012. When I click on a date, or the 'row labels' header and select 'Group' I get a message saying "cannot group that selection'. If I select a number of the dates in the header I can group in the normal Excel manner for groups, however there is no option for selecting Months or years. I have attached a pdf of the header for this pivot to give you a better idea of what I am talking about. I cannot upload the file given it is nearly 100Mb
