    Text results with two conditions (lookup with two conditions)

    Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum so please don't be to harsh

    Here is my question, is there a way to get 2 conditions in lookup formula, I tried a lot of stuff, INDEX/MATCH array formula, vlookup, IF and few more i can't even remember now. Since i'm not a native english speaker i will put a table here so it
    might be easier to understand.

    What i would like to be done automatically is: in sheet2 C2 copy a name of engineer from Sheet1, if date and shift are the same on Sheet1 and Sheet2.

    Any ideas?

    CSE, aka Array aka { }, formulae are confirmed with CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER.
    Replace commas ( , ) with semicolons ( ; ) in formulae, if your locale setting demands.

    Thanks for the quick answers but I can't get it to work, is there a chance that cell format is interfering with formulas?

    i tested my formula on the sample file you have uploaded. aren't your real data like the data in your sample? what are the data cells formatted as?

    if your real data / format is different, can you upload a snapshot of that?

    Sample has the same format of those columns that are in, original file has more info but it should't be connected in any way. And the weird thing is i cant' get your formula to work on sample i uploaded. Can it be because of Excel 2010?

    It's highlighting this part of formula $D$21,MATCH

    see attached.

    i have inserted my formula as well as vlady's, to show that both work just fine on your sample file.

    it should not have anything to do with Excel 2010, which is a higher version than the one i am using. if it were the other way around, i would have been suspicious.

    Re: Text results with two conditions (lookup with two conditions)

    This is what i got when i opened it =INDEX(Sheet1!$D$2:$D$21;MATCH(Sheet2!$A2&Sheet2!$B2;INDEX(Sheet1!$A$2:$A$21&Sheet1!$C$2:$C$21;0);0)) and now it works. Should've known that i need to replace , with ;
    Sorry for the confusion, i'm still new to excel.

    Anyways... thanks guys, you saved me a lot of time.
