    Times tables

Hey - i was just trying to make a times tables sheet and the way i was doing it was -

I drew out 12 vertically and horizontally (using auto fill...)

Then i entered the formula - =B$3*A2 - (cell b3 being 2 and a2 being two) and then i autofilled this formula down the column for the two times table, that worked fine

The only thing is i have to then repeat this task for each column (12 times...)

i was wondering if there was a quicker way to do it, ? Auto fill the whole thing at once, ?

    cheers

    Re: Times tables

    Do you mean this:

    =B$3*$A2

    Pull down and right

    Re: Times tables

    or you could put
    =ROW(A1)*COLUMN(A1) drag across and down

    Re: Times tables

hey martin - where would i put that formula, ? in the first 2 x 2 box, ?

i just tried it (see attached image) and it kind of worked - but only in part for some reason, ?

    I put the formula - =ROW(B4)*COLUMN(B4)

into the first multiplication box (2x2) .... i don't really understand why the first answer given was 6, ?

    Re: Times tables

just noticed your post marcol - thanks, ill check that now...

One thing i notice is that the dollar sign changes place - =$B4*C$2

Does that change which element gets locked in place, ? ( ie, before both, both locked.... before just the number, just the numbers locked....)

obviously i'm not that au fait with the software at the moment, so thanks for your patience !

    Re: Times tables

hey - i think the problem was the order in which i was timing them - i was multiplying the row by the column where as you were multiplying the column by the row...

i changed the order and that seemed to work... although i don't fully understand why

ill check that link, cheers marcol

    Re: Times tables

yep - did that martin and it worked fine, thanks...

I think where i was going wrong though was the order of the formular, or maybe the placing of the dollar sign, or maybe everywhere, ? ha... cheers
