Need Help with a complicated Search/ IF formula

    Hi All,
I'm trying to do a comprehensive logistics spreadsheet that includes pairing people up in hotel rooms, and then exporting their room assignments to another sheet in the workbook. I've tried a few SEARCH/IF/THEN formula combinations and feel like I'm getting close, but still don't have it. At this point I'm wondering if it's even possible. Here's some detailed info:

In my "master sheet" I have a list of names. One of the columns of information along the rows is a "Wednesday Hotel" column. On another sheet in the workbook, I have 3 different fields associated with the different hotels people could be assigned to on Wednesday night. I would like my "Master Sheet" cell to be able to search each of the specified fields for the specified name, then report the hotel the name is found to be associate with.

So, to say that a different way, I need to search fields A (Comfort Inn), B (La Quinta) and C (Hyatt) for a specified name, then if the name is found in A, the cell on my master sheet should say "Comfort Inn"

    Thanks!!

I hope I explained that well enough!

    Hello Rfitzgerald,

So if you have the name in A2 in master sheet you want to search for that name in your "3 fields"? Do you mean just 3 cells or three columns (or something else). Could that name appear more than once? Do you have the 3 hotels listed in a range of cells?

Yes. The three fields are each a set of two columns that are 15 rows long. The name will only appear once. (and if it appears more than once, I'm hoping for an error signal- double booking people is a problem I'm hoping to alleviate with this workbook), and I have the hotel listed as a header at the top of the columns.

here's how I have the fields in the hotel spreadsheet- I would like to be searching both the 2nd and 3rd columns in each box for the names.
