Sparklines in Excel

I am a new user to excel and I am having a difficult time trying to add sparklines to show data trends. Does the chart supposed to stay on the screen after you finish.

Yes, once you've created the chart, it shouldn't vanish.

What you probably want is a scatter plot, set to "scatter with smooth lines" (and no data markers), which then has the axes and most of the labeling stripped out; maybe re-formatted to a different size, too.

Once you've got that set up you could probably save it as a chart template if you use these a lot.
