Can't find saved excel spread sheet

I re-saved an excel spreadsheet and today can only find old version...the latest version cannot be found. I have made all rudimentary searched, can anyone suggest anything else I can do and why this may have occurred?

I guess search for the file name on your computer?

Yes, basically the file doesn't seem to exist anywhere .... wonder if you or anyone knows any special recovery methods? - Thanks
