    Question problem with thousands separator

    Hello

When working with large numbers the "thousand separator" doesnt work for the whole number, of example:

    Original Number: 2800000000

    Expected Result: 2.800.000.000

    Result Obtained: 2800000,000.00

Please tell me what should I do for resolving this problem

hi rahim84, shouldn't it be commas instead of full stops? it should be:
    2,800,000,000.00

but i don't understand how you got that result. click on the cell you want to put in the "thousand separator", & click on the comma icon seen in the Home Ribbon. It is on the right side of the percentage sign (%).

Thanks, if you have clicked on the * and added our rep.

    Re: problem with thousands separator

The regional settings determine if a comma or a dot is used as a thousand separator, and if a dot or a comma is used as the decimal delimiter. In most European countries, the thousand separator is a dot, and the decimal delimiter is a comma. In UK and US and many other countries, it's the other way around.

Rahim84: What are your computer settings for the decimal symbol?

In Windows XP check Start > Control Panel > Regional and language Options. Do the sample numbers look correct? If not, select a different regional setting in the drop down, or click the Customize button to use the settings you need.

In Windows 7 you can find the settings with Start > Control Panel > Clock, Language and Region > Change the date, time or number format > Additional settings.

After checking these settings, check the Excel Options (Office Button > Excel Options) and under Editing Options make sure that "Use system separators" is selected.

    Does that make a difference?
