This is really more of a curiosity more than a problem, but it is growing mildly irritating so I thought I'd present my situation to the experts.

I do transcription work with Excel and Quicktime, and I need to be able to see both programs at once. On my tiny little 13" MacBook Pro this means putting the Quicktime video in the top half of the screen, and resizing my Excel spreadsheet to take up the entire bottom half, which is about 15 rows high.

I also make use of my Mac's "Spaces" feature as I work, as I often have to use other programs such as Chrome, the terminal, VLC, etc., and it's easier to keep things organized that way.

That's where my "problem" arises. Sometimes I will tab over (actually the shortcut is cmd+arrow) to a different space from Excel, work a little while in that space, and when I tab back to Excel, I find that my spreadsheet has grown. I can't think of a better way to put it. The bottom of the sheet will be in the same spot, but about 10 rows or so have been added, so that the top now obscures the Quicktime window in the top half. If I'm not paying attention, and I'm going back and forth between the other spaces, sometimes the spreadsheet will expand to take up the entire height of the screen.

Like I said to begin with, this is not really a problem at all. I'm just curious what I might be doing to cause this (since it doesn't happen every time I use the spaces function, I assume it's some action I'm taking in another program that is triggering a shortcut of some kind), and it just gets to be a nuisance resizing and relocating the window all the time. At least it's not changing or deleting any content though, so I really can't complain.

Thanks!
