multiple validation dependent lists based one one source but not on each other?

i am trying to make a set of validation dependent lists where the two lists after the first are dependent on the first, but not on each other. for example in the first list you choose an energy source, like electricity. in the second list you choose a unit for electricity. in the third list you choose the source of the electricity. however if you choose natural gas in the first list, then a different list of units is available in list two and a different list of sources available in list three. i have the fist two lists down but am having trouble adding the third. can anyone help me?

See this Thread: Clearing out data validation lists when another changes?

It is a similar requirement. The OP has used some VLOOKUP functions to populate dependent lists. I provided some code to clear the dependent lists when one of the early drop down options is changed.

thanks for the reply TMShucks. i am pretty new to this and have never written or used a macro in excel, so the thread you referenced was a bit over my head.
i created the first two lists using data validation, the second referencing the first using the indirect formula. is there a way to have a third list also reference the first using data validation? the (obvious?) problem that i am encountering is that i cannot have multiple data sets with the same name, so i do not know how to make a third list reference the entries in the first list.

It would help if you uploaded a sample workbook with an explanation of what you are trying to achieve.
