Adding a row in the source work book won't add a row in the target work book

    Hi,

I have a list in workbook one. A few columns, a few rows - nothing fancy.

In workbook two I have the same list but with only one of the columns. This info is linked to workbook one with A1=A1 in workbook one etc.

I want to insert a new row in workbook one in the middle of my list and have Excel autogenerate this inserted row in workbook two. Prefably with formulas and conditions included. Is this possible? I've tried dynamic lists unsuccsessfully. Not sure I'm doing it right, though.

Actually my list is built like several lists with headers inside the list. Looks like this:

    Car
    Honda
    Toyota
    Simca
    Color
    Red
    White
    Blue
    Engine
    Diesel
    Gas
    No floor - Flintstone engine

How do I insert a new row (color, maybe) in my source work book so workbook two gets the same update? Many thanks!

    / L

    Hi,

as long as you insert rows while workbook 2 is closed everything should work fine. Only if workbook 2 is open, Excel will try to move the formulas accordingly, to keep the initial reference. The newely inserted rows will not be visible

Re: Adding a row in the source work book won't add a row in the target work book

    Thanks, Fettertiger,

Yes, it does update the target file with new rows. But the columns are affected by this added row. Let's say I only use Columns A, B and C in the source file. I add a row to the source file (while the target file is closed) and the target file is updated with the new row accordingly.

However, the data in let's say C14 in my target file is gone. A14 and B14 are ok and updated (part from formatting) but C14 is not. Makes me confused!
