    Multi Cell Conditional Formatting

Cells A1 to A10 contain the number 1. If I apply a conditional format using 'Highlight Cell Rules/Text That Contains...' and enter '1' in the 'Format cells that contain the text' box and format this with a 'Red Fill', then all the cells in the Range A1 to A10 will have a Red Fill applied.

However, I want to achive the same effect as the option above but rather than cells A1 to A10 containing a number 1, I'm basing the fill format on the contents of cell A12, which contains the word 'All Regions'. To attempt to do this, I choose 'New Rule/Use a formula to determine which cells to format' from the 'Conditional Formatting' menu and enter =A12="All Regions" in the 'Format values where this formula is true:' box and apply my formatting accordingly.

The problem I have is that despite having =$A$1:$A$10 in the 'Applies to' box, the formatting is only applied to the first cell in the range and not all ten cells as I would have expected. How do I apply the formula to all 10 cells at once, rather than having to apply the same conditional format to each cell individually?

    Re: Multi Cell Conditional Formatting

    Change formula to:

    =A$12="All Regions"
Where there is a will there are many ways.

NBVC, that actually only formatted two cells, however using =$A$12="All Regions" worked, now I can see the logic, many thanks.

    Re: Multi Cell Conditional Formatting

If you had applies to: =$A$1:$A$10 and you entered formula: =A$12="All Regions" , I don't see how that would give different results than your =$A$12="All Regions"

The column is the same, so you wouldn't have to "freeze" the A.... anyway. as long as you got the result you wanted...
