Lookup using Month and Year - Index and Match

    Good morning

I have a problem which no doubt the answer to is straight forward and easy, but I cant figure it out.

I have a table with the performance of a portfolio. Column A shows the end of month dates, column B shows the absolute value at the end of each month and column C shows the monthly percentage change each month.

I have a separate table with 12 columns for the months (Jan to Dec) and 10 rows with the years (2002 to 2012).

I need to table to lookup the column heading for the month, i.e. May; and the row for the year, i.e. 2009 and the return the monthly percentage return from Column C. I realise it is an index/match function, but cant work out how to work with the Month and Year instead of the full date format dd/mm/yy.

A copy of the spreadsheet is attached.

    Much appreciated.

    Nick

I would change the month headings from text to numbers that represent these months; i.e. 1, 2, 3 etc. And then use this in F6
