    Excel 2010 conditional formatting problem

    Hi,

    I'm using Excel 2010.

I am having a difficulty with conditional formatting.

If I choose Conditional Formatting>New Rule from the Home Ribbon, the group select icons are inactive and do not permit me to set lowest value or highest value. Rule type is set to 'format all cells based on their type'.

It happens in any spreadsheet including a new one.

Anybody able to tell me what I'm doing wrong?

    Thank you

Dear it will automatically take the lowest value & highest value from whole of the selected region.
try working with any other rules.

in this only u can change the type of icon & the color of icon set.

    Thank you for your reply.

The selected cell range has no effect on the values or the appearance of the "New Formatting Rule" dialog window.

The text fields for the minimum and maximum value (both labelled 'Value') contain greyed text "(Lowest value)" and "(Highest value)" respectively.

I find it hard to believe that these are not intended to be edited. If that was the case there would be no reason for the group select icon to exist.

    Thank you

I understand now. I have to change the 'type' drop down menu from "lowest value" to "number".
    Thank you
