    decimal separator not functioning

I use Excel 2000 and I guess i did something to cause decimal separator not to function properly. If I type number 25693 in the cell, I am getting 256.93 instead of 25,693.00, or .010 instead of 10.00 (Custom setting #,###.00). How can go back to default setting or correct this any other way?
