    Converting ft'in" into cm

    Hi,

I imported some data into my spreadsheet, and have a column displayed as feet/inches, (e.g 5' 10")(does have the space in the middle*). My question is, how to I convert this into cm or m?

    thanks

Hello Tra003, welcome to the forum.

I am assuming you are dealing with heights here. I suggest separating your heights into two columns and then converting from there.

The CONVERT function is great for changing between metric and english measurements.

I have attached an example workbook with this done. Let me know if this helps!

Use the below where A1 equals value in feet and inches i.e. 5' 10"

    Another way

    =SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(A2,"'",""),"""","/12")*30.48

See if this works, I'm sure I'm missing a simpler way,

    =(LEFT(A2,FIND("'",A2)-1)+(MID(SUBSTITUTE(A2,"""",""),FIND(" ",A2)+1,255)/12))*30.48
