Highlighted selection dissapears when going to another window

I apologize if this has already been answered in another thread. A lot of my search terms and google-fu was not giving me any useful information back.

So if you select a row in Excel and it becomes highlighted then you move to a different window it doesn't show up as highlighted anymore.

I am sure you know what I mean and I am becoming concerned that there might not be a solution to this.

I appreciate any tips towards solving this.

    Thanks

Sorry, but I don't know what you mean. What exactly are you trying to achieve? Are you able to demonstrate the problem by uploading an example?

Hey Russel, so the two pics below demonstrate what I mean. I have a highlighted row in Book1 and when I switch over to work in Book2 the highlighting dissapears. Is there any way to circumvent this? I would like to view the highlighted row in Book1 while working in Book2.

But what are you trying to do? Why do you want the row highlighted in Book1? Once you have highlighted the range an instruction is expected. e.g. copy

Well when I switch to Word or something the highlighted row goes un-highlighted so I can't quickly glance over and see what a specific row's cell value is.

When I switch over to another window, the row that was highlighted is no longer highlighted.

    Does this make more sense?

I can't replicate what you are describing. When a cell or range is selected then it will remain so until you go back to it. Perhaps you were right in your first post.

I am sure you know what I mean and I am becoming concerned that there might not be a solution to this.
But I'm not sure whether there really is a problem.

Sorry that I can't offer anything else.

Re: Highlighted selection dissapears when going to another window

So say you wanted to transcribe some data from one excel document1 to another excel document2. So say document 2 has three thousand rows of data and is 20 columns wide. I want to have both document1 and document2 open side by side and be able to accurately see what row I am on based on the highlighting.

The problem is when I highlight a row in document1 as a reference point to use when I go over to document2, the highlighting of the row dissapears and so I can't quickly see what row I am on.

    Can't you copy and paste?

It would help if you could upload a sample of what you have.

Have you thought of making a copy of the worksheet in Book1 and then pasting that into a new sheet in Book2?

Copy/pasting won't be very fast compared to by transcribing speed. It's also being transcribed from Book1 to a Word document where I am filling in certain fields in a table.

If there is any way to keep the highlighting visible while on another screen that is what I am looking for.

I am not purposefully not uploading the Excel file I am working with because I don't want to show you but it's not mine but the company I work for. Just think of like 13 columns of serial numbers and about 3000 rows.

How about embedding the Excel data into your Word document?

the highlighted range ONLY shows up in the application/sheet that is active. as soon as you whitch to another application...like from excel to word...word becomes active, so the high-lighting in excel is no longer visible. to the best of my knowledge, there is nothing you can do about that.

as far as having a range high-lighted in excel on sheet 1 and wanting the same range high-lighted on sheet2, 1 way would be to group the sheets...in sheet1, click on the sheet2 tabe, then highlight the range in sheet1. the same range will be high-lighted in sheet 2 now
