    Complete Newbie to stats and Excel - input Likert data into Excel help needed

    Hello all,

    I am completely new to Excel, and have a set of data based on (part of) the below Likert Scale. I have been hunting around for hours on how exactly to structure putting that into Excel, in a way which is most effective to run tests such as a ChiSquare analysis and came across this forum .

    I would be eternally grateful if someone could assist, I am sure plenty of you have the expertise on a matter such as this.

    1 = totally disagree
    2 = not agree that much
    3 = undecided
    4 = agree quite a bit
    5 = totally agree

    When I have been aggressive it is USUALLY because……… (please circle)

    1. I believed it would have a positive outcome for me 1 2 3 4 5
    2. I am just behaving in a way that has worked for me in the past 1 2 3 4 5
    3. I have used it to protect my self-esteem 1 2 3 4 5
    4. I have used it to make others do what I want 1 2 3 4 5
    5. I have used it to release anger, frustration or tension 1 2 3 4 5

    As I will have data from seven different areas (prison wings, to be exact), it would also be very helpful to know how to seperate the data.

    Many. many thanks.

    Rob

    Thanks for the reply, wayneg.

    I will basically have seven wings - A-F, and have approx. thirty surveys from each one with the answers to 46 of the Likert questions (as posted). I want to know the best way of inserting all of this into Excel, in order to run the appropriate testing.

    Kind regards

    well you can create a drop down list user the data validation of the 1-5 (or the totally disagree, not agree that much, undecided, agree quite a bit, totally agree) scoring and then after inputting all your questions, you can duplicate the sheet for each resident. or you can create forms using vba for a better looking one but i cant help with that as i dont have no/little VBA/macro skills.

    Yes, precisely. So in essence I would like to be able to analyse all seven blocks together, but also be able to identify trends between the blocks individually.

    I hope that makes sense.
