macro to put an asterisk nex to the first new name in a column then sort.

Can someone please help me to do the following:

I need to find in a very long column, the first of each Program, by placing an asterisk next to each new program then sorting them.

LOT Polish Airlines B787 Line Fit
LOT Polish Airlines B787 Line Fit
Saudi Arabian Airlines B777-322 HD Retro
Saudi Arabian Airlines B777-322 HD Retro
Saudi Arabian Airlines B777-322 HD Retro
Etihad A340-600 Line Fit ETD08
Air France A380 Line Fit
Air France A380 Line Fit
Air France A380 Line Fit
Air India B747-400 Retro
Air India B747-400 Retro
FSTA A330-200 Airtanker Line Fit
Etihad A340-600 Line Fit ETD08
Etihad A340-600 Line Fit ETD08
Etihad A340-600 Line Fit ETD08
Etihad A340-600 Line Fit ETD08
Air France A380 Line Fit
Etihad A340-600 Line Fit ETD08

It goes on and on with multiple rows of each seen above and more.

With your data starting in A2, you could put this formula in B2 and copy down then sort by the asterisk.

i Jeff,

The formula you gave was great. That part worked beautiful, Thanks. The problem now is that it won't sort on B and give me all the asterisks at the top. Did I do something wrong?

Once the formula is entered >> highlight column B >> right click >> copy >> paste special as values

Now sort column B ascending.

Is this a periodic thing or something which you will do often?

If often, here is a macro. Adjust where required.
