Change how spreadsheet is displayed on screen

I have built a spreadsheet for someone that is set up like a table. It all fits on an 8.5 x 11 print area. The user has asked me if there is a way to have only the cells being used displayed on the screen rather than seeing all of the unused columns off to the right that continue on and on. Is there a way to set up the view so that when opened it only displays the print area?

Highlight all the columns from the right of those you want to see to the extreme right of the sheet, then right-click and click Hide. Similarly for the rows - start with the row below your data, and highlight all the rows to the bottom of the sheet, right-click then click Hide. Then save your workbook.

    Hope this helps.

That was my initial thoughts to but the columns to the right seem to go on to infinity. I don't see that you can ever hide them all.

    Change the print range.

Did that first. The print area only affects what comes out on the printed page, the view on the screen remains the same. I'm guessing this is just may not be possible.

Let's say that the columns you want to display go up to column L. Then click on the column identifier on the next column (M). Then hold down the <shift> key, press the <end> key once, followed by the <right arrow> key, and then release <shift>. This will have highlighted all those columns, and you can right-click and click Hide as I said before.

Do the same for the rows - click on the row identifier for the row below your data, hold down <shift>, press <end>, press <down arrow>, release <shift>, and then you can hide all those rows in one operation.

    Hope this helps.

Well, the columns and rows don't go on for infinity. This link shows a quick method to get to the end of the rows and columns.

Re: Change how spreadsheet is displayed on screen

After further digging I found an older post that solves this. I will re-post the answer for the benefit of others:

Click on the first empty column you want to hide by clicking on the column heading. Press Ctrl+Shift+Right Arrow. This select every column to the right. Right click and select hide.
For the rows use the same procedure using the down arrow instead.
