Numbers automatically divide by 100

Every time I enter a whole number in a cell in Excel it automatically divides it by 100, like it's calculating a percentage. The Number format is set to General.I use windows for mac- there is no option tab under tools and I can't find fixed decimals anywhere. Thanks for an help, Mat

Click on the Office (or File) button in the top left corner, then on Excel Options (at bottom of panel), then on Advanced. Under Editing Options you should see 'Automatically insert a decimal point' and you should un-check this.

Thanks Pete, but there are no options under file! Is it because this is mac version of excel?

Perfect! Thank you so much - this has bugged me for ages. So much so I've learned to multiply every entry by 100 !! One last thing - the formatting bars always disappear and need rechecking - is there a way to make sure they stay by default? Mat

Hi Mat,

I didn't notice what version of Excel Mac you were using - yours is more like XL2003, so the options were in a different place. Glad to hear you got it sorted.
