Find Specific Text in Text String and Return Value in Adjacent Column

Hi Everyone, hope someone can help.

I have 2 columns, column A with alpha numeric text (file names) and column B with the date the file was created.

I want to search for a part of the file name and return the value in column B.

For example: I want to lookup '96A191971' which can be found on row 12 and want 15 Jul 08 returned.

    Thanks in advance.

Input part of the string i.e. 96A191971 in Cell E1 and use

    =VLOOKUP("*"&E1&"*",$A$1:$B$21,2,FALSE)
    Life's a spreadsheet, Excel!
