Unhappy Date mixup on X axis of a chart created from a pivot table

    Hello,

I have 2 different pivot tables with data from 2005 to 2008 but plotting different things. The dates are grouped by year and month. Ideally I would like to be able to overlay them to compare patterns in the data but pivot charts seem limited in this manner. (This is not my question but if anyone knows of a solution to do this that would be a bonus!)

I have resorted to creating regular Excel charts from the pivot tables. However, when I try to add the Horizontal Axis Label as the range of dates in my pivot tables, it displays the years as separate columns.

I have attached an image of the worksheet with the pivot table on the left, the regular chart in the middle, and the pivot chart for the pivot table on that sheet in the top right (the bottom left is the pivot chart from the other data).

I would like the dates on the middle chart to look like the dates on the pivot charts but am not having any luck.

    Thanks for any help!!

Re: Date mixup on X axis of a chart created from a pivot table

I solved the problem by going to Pivot Table Options --> Display and activating the box for "Classic PivotTable layout" so that the years and months were displayed in two separate columns. I then set the horizontal axis range as both the year and month columns and got the results I wanted.

Again, this is still not ideal because a pivot chart would be useful for actively changing the dates viewed so that I could closer view patterns between certain years or months. If there is a way to do what I have using pivot charts instead of regular charts, any ideas are still welcome!
