Question Insert Date/Time stamp in cell after edit

Good day once again experts, guru's and people who know more than me in Excel

I would like to know if there is a way to have excel Insert the "current date" (a.k.a. "today" b.k.a. "computer system date") in the same row (but a certain column) of a cell that I just edited.

    Eg.

Say I edit cell A5 and I want the "current date" to be inserted into column C (then the date should be places in cell C5) get what I mean?

Reason I am doing this is because I want to implement a Conditional Format that would highlight the cell if the date is older than 21 days (3 weeks)
... its kind of a database I'm trying to create in excel for grocery items (as you can tell by all my previous posts)

if you want to do this without VBA, check this method out:

CSE, aka Array aka { }, formulae are confirmed with CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER.
Replace commas ( , ) with semicolons ( ; ) in formulae, if your locale setting demands.
All good ideas are courtesy resources from this forum as well as others around the web.
