How to create a function that counts horizontal entries

I have multiple columns of information formatted in each column as such:

18
18
25
25
25
40
35
35
35
35
40



I want to create a function that will go through and count the number of times that each value appears in a column so that at the end I could hopefully see something like this:

Value # of appearances
18 2
25 3
35 4
40 2

Is there a good way to do this?
