Pivot Table - Advanced Filter or Countif in Excel 2007

Hello Guru's, I am a new member and rusty Excel user.

I have just extracted some data from SAP and need to analyse the data, I have attched a sample extract of some of the data (in the attached) and would like to know the best way of achivieing the data analysis / extract. Please see the Table at the top of the attached sheet that I am trying to complete.

Would pivot table, advanced filter or countif work.

After reading the forum rules I should have added some more information, in my initial post in the sample sheet each row is a person record and may contain up to 9 sections of development activity details I am trying to count and consolidate the statistics of development areas and development activities. Hope this helps
