Linked Excel chart linked to PowerPoint does not update formatting

I created a very simple example. I made a line chart and linked it (with source formatting). I changed the data and it updates on the fly. However, if I change the formatting (axis, fonts, colors), it doesn't flow. Is this a known issue? Is there a resolution? Thank you!

Ugh, it's doing it with Word now. This is going to be a monthly pain.

That seemed to perform worse, It didn't even update the data.
