Hi there, I'm a bit stumped here
I have 2 columns of different lengths in both of which some cells contain the same names.
i need to align the names in column B to those that match in column A
Sample attached.
align data sample.xls
Many thanks.

Actually in a large column of data i'm getting strange anomalies with that formula, some repeating results and errors.
Without sample is hard to say

The cells marked in green (D43,44 and 45) have copied a wrong (and duplicated) cell rather than the cell assigned to the relevant name.
Sorry my fault it shoul be:
INDEX($A$1:$A$25,MATCH(C1,$B$1:$B$25,0),1)
and delete attachment I think You have there real personal data
Thanks, thats perfect.
