excel data in two columns

I have two sets of numbers in two columns. I need to arrange those in ascending order in one column.

see if this works for you. always better to share a sample file so that angles could be covered.

let us say you have the numbers spread in the range A1:B5, put the following in C1 and drag-fill down until you start seeing hyphens:

for descending, you would use LARGE instead of SMALL.
