Does file size correlate with calculation speed?

Say if I had a file (xls for simplicity) with a size of 2.0mb. And I changed some formulas in the file and it got it down to 1.6mb for example. Would this necessarily mean that the calculation speed is faster?

file size definitely correlates to calculation speed, but very small file size changes will produce very small calc time changes. I have some files that contain daily data for many years, and every now and then, i go in and "value" all the formulas for a few past years and there is an appreciable increase in process speed. but i am talking a relatively big file of 80-100 mb with dozens of sheets, 1000's of lines of data and 10's of 1000's of calcs.

hope this partly answers your question?
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

That's very helpful to know. I'm in the process of trying to change Indirect formulas into non-volatile functions and saw that the file size decreased a tiny bit when I did that, which hopefully means it calculates that tiny bit faster.

Yes, as per FDibbins post. Also, using built-in formulas rather than VBA generally decreases calculation time significantly.
