    creating a parts list

    Hello,

I want to be able to create a parts list. I would like to be shown a basic reminder list of the items I have to include e.g. column A.

I want to click on each of these items and be shown a drop down list to make a selection e.g. Instrument 1,2,or 3. Critically, depending upon the selection I need inserted into the same sheet, in the same column below the chosen item, the parts associated with that product.

I attach a demo sheet. Column A is how the sheet will look to start with. Column C is how I would like the data in Column A to be changed to once the selections have been made. The main issue is that some widgets will have one associated part and another may have 5 parts.

I trust this makes sense. I imagine its a combination of named ranges, data validation and perhaps dependant lookup - but I just cant work it out!

    Thanks in advance.

    In sheetmodule 'Sheet1'.
Type first: the instrument in column A.
The code runs and put all the parts below.
Then type cable below anywhere in column A.
The code runs and put all the parts below.
    ect.

Thank you. Yes this works - but not quite how I was hoping. Using your method I have to remember which Items to type - there could be 20. I hoped to have a list (as per my original column A) so I could click on each item one by one, and see a drop down list and make the selection that way - then the parts would appear as a result of my selection. Is there any way of doing this with standard excel functions rather than code so I can understand the method more easily and then make adjustments to my real sheet?
    Thanks for your help
