how do I create an equation to produce an auto fill

I have 3 worksheets in one workbook (sheet 1=legend, sheet 2=estimate, sheet 3=distribution). Sheet 1 is the legend that sheet 2 pulls from. Cells B20:B30 (sheet 2) have this formula (this particular formula came from cell B28, hence the reference to cell A28)

    =INDEX('Sheet1'!$B$2:Sheet1'!$B$43,A28)

I need my formula (on sheet 3) to say: If cells B20:B30 (sheet 2) says pull from B10 (sheet 1) then multiply C_ (sheet 2) times C18 (sheet 2).

NOTE: The underscore being the adjecent cell to whichever cell pulled from sheet 1.... ie. if B22 then C22 or if B28 then C28

I think this is what you mean - put it in whichever cell you are using on Sheet3:

    =INDEX('Sheet2'!C$20:C$30,'Sheet2'!A20)*'Sheet2'!$C$18

    Hope this helps.

Thank you Pete, but the formula does not seem to work. I think it is because it does not reference the "Legend" on sheet 1 and it also does not identify the adjacent cell to reference before multiplying by cell C18 on sheet 2.

Can you post an example workbook? I got very confused trying to follow your description of what you want to achieve.

Re: how do I create an equation to produce an auto fill

THE BLUE CELL ON SHEET 3 IS WHERE I NEED THE FORMULA TO BE.

IT SHOULD SAY "IF ANY CELL BETWEEN A10:A13 (SHEET 2) SAYS 51 THEN MULTIPLY QTY IN C_ (SHEET 2) BY C8 (SHEET 2)."

NOTE: C_ SHOULD BE QUIVALENT HORIZONTALLY TO WHICH EVER CELL HAS "51" IN IT. i.e. A11=51 THEN MULTIPLY C11*C8 OR IF A12=51 THEN MULTIPLY C12*C8

IM NOT SURE HOW TO MAKE THE FORMULA READ BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THERE ARE SO MANY VARIABLES.

duplicate thread, or just an error in attaching file?

CSE, aka Array aka { }, formulae are confirmed with CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER.
Replace commas ( , ) with semicolons ( ; ) in formulae, if your locale setting demands.
All good ideas are courtesy resources from this forum as well as others around the web.

    @ bamma86

Is the problem being discussed in this thread the same as the one being discussed in your other thread?
