Can excel do this?
...mmmm interesting Q.
Are you wanting original stuff or just pre-existing?

How about the type of musical instruments. Do you need seperate sheets for each one? Annotated with guitar chord tabs? Do you need this for more than 7 instruments? (Nested IF may be an issue if you need to share this with a musician using Excel 2003).

Docendo discimus.
....and royalty rights may be an issue if the result is a #1 in the charts.
@brandonlaw
Seriously though, how do you see this working? Can you tell us a bit more about what you have in mind?
Maybe I'm just the optimistic type, but I tend to believe that anything is possible given enough time, effort, and ingenuity -- even forcing a square peg through a round hole. However, I find it difficult to justify the effort when there are several applications out there (I'm aware of two free ones) that will generate musical scores. It just doesn't seem worth the effort to force a square peg through a round hole when there are several square holes available. Maybe I'm not understanding what the OP wants to do here, but I don't think I'd waste my time with Excel trying to write music.
Hi,
Well yes, that sort of thing seems eminently possible, but it will of course need a set of rules laying down and a description of how such a macro should proceed.
If you can define what you mean by 'pleasant sounding' and how such notes might be combined then no doubt something could be put together. But Excel won't write the algorithm for you without some sort of starting premise / rules.
I think this belongs in the Excel-Philosophical sub forum
